The Formative Years

Ages 3 to 6 are the formative years for kids. These are the years when we change bad habits and replace them with good ones, when kids learn the rewards for good choices and the consequences for bad choices. At American Hapkido MMA we build a strong foundation that will support a successful, responsible child. Martial Arts training is more than just kicking and punching. Many of the things taught here can easily be applied in academics, sports, the arts and social settings outside the dojo.

Little Dragons Success Formula

You can’t teach a child to be a good mom or dad; you show them. Our instructors are highly trained Positive Role Models. We lead by example. Early on your child will see what it is to be a Black Belt and choose to make that their goal as well. This will become one of your greatest tools. Because, to be a Black Belt is to live by a higher code and not follow the crowd. To do what is right because it’s the right thing to do and to treat others the way you wish to be treated. Don’t think kids this age understand? On the contrary, we find these youngsters are eager to rise to the challenge.

It's no magic pill and it doesn't happen in one class. However, for many parents, our program is one of the most valued investments for their child. We've had outstanding success teaching kids how to become goal-oriented, athletic and academic achievers. We believe that every child has the potential to become a Champion in Life!

Our Classes

Lil Dragons classes are high energy, motivational, and fun. We use exciting, dynamic drills and games that are designed to develop basic martial arts motor skills while improving their ability to listen and follow directions. We start simple, introducing them to martial arts etiquette, respect and focus. As they grow in confidence, self-control and skill the curriculum gradually becomes more challenging, yet simple enough for 3 to 6 year olds to master.

Award Winning Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on concepts and philosophies from the leading experts in our industry for pre-school ages 3 to 6 years. It’s designed to allow kids to progress at their own pace and provide the optimum balance of martial arts skills, attitude and life skills.

Tips or Stripes (short-term goal setting)

Each colored belt is broken into five sections called tips. Lessons are set up to earn a tip or stripe every 2 to 4 lessons. When all the tips for a belt have been earned, Your Lil Dragon will be allowed to promote. Belt promotions are held every 2 months. Our instructors monitor your child’s progress by his/her stripes. Make sure your child is consistent with their attendance so that they can complete their requirements before the Lil Dragons Belt Promotions.

Tip Testing is held during Fridays open mat.

Open mat is not a structured class. Students may come and go at any time during Open Mat to demonstrate their skills for tips or just practice with an instructor focusing on their particular needs. If your child has difficulty with a specific skill, the instructor may ask you to work with him/her at home to improve the skill.

Private lessons are available if needed.

Belt Promotions (long-term goal setting)

The Lil Dragon Belt Promotion gives your child the opportunity to show the instructors and parents how developed their skills have become. Their instructors will evaluate each dragon to monitor his/her progress. After the test the instructor will personally tie their new belt around their waist and present them with a Certificate of Rank.

Belt promotions are held every other month, usually on the last Saturday of the month.

The Student Success Journal

This personalized journal contains all the curriculum requirements from White Belt to Black. This journal is used to track your child’s progress. It’s packed with helpful tips and instructor comments for the parents. An essential tool for your child’s advancement and a wonderful keepsake for years to come.

What others have to say about us

“Mr. Anderson, I am so glad that you, someone I have entrusted deeply to help navigate my son in a positive direction with Karate, are also a fellow believer! I value having people in Aidan’s life to teach him and guide him but when those people are Christians, I know they are coming from a special place. I think God led us to you on purpose.

I had some very tough times with Aidan immediately before I enrolled him in your class. No focus, lots of acting up/out, off-the-chart energy and many other issues that left me feeling drained and exhausted which, finally led me to prayer, asking for help. Then one afternoon, my friend, Donte (Jamesie’s dad) said, THIS PLACE IS FOR AIDAN! Since Aidan has been with you, we’ve seen lots of improvements in him and more importantly in me. I’ve been given the gift of watching him learn a sport, learn how to wait his turn, respect his teacher, be proud of himself and have responsibilities. It’s rare for a parent to look into their child’s world and see all of those miraculous things happening—beyond the parent themselves.

Aidan started going to the potty by himself after his session with you on Friday! Maybe you’ve been tough but also kind and it was the perfect combination of things to subconsciously tell him, he could do it! All I know is that he adored getting the applause for his stripe and getting to play sword fight with you. He had been wanting to sword fight all that day with anything he could find.

I just want to reaffirm how happy I am that God led us down the path to you. I feel that you are a big positive in Aidan’s life and I am grateful for how much he looks forward to Karate, you and his friends there! Win-win-win!

Thank you for your feedback! You have a wonderful talent with kiddos, especially with active little boys!”

Melinda Newton (Aidan and Reece’s mama)

“Thank you Mr. Anderson for being such an awesome role model for Martin (and Natalie) and giving me the support and tools to use through parenting! I knew from the first time I met you that we needed to be part of Li'l Dragons and under your guidance! AHMMA feels like family to me!”

Anastasia Popert Soroa

“Dear Mr. Anderson, London has really enjoyed your program. His confidence has been boosted and he has a newfound respect for the people around him. It never gets old hearing London saying "yes ma’am" or "yes sir" and my friends are astounded at London's self-control.

Thank you for everything you have taught London. We truly appreciate it.”

Sky and Stacy

“Mr. Anderson, I wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you put into Zach. He has come a long way. We have seen a lot of improvement. You have a great program and most of all you are so great with children, especially my wild boy. I appreciate you asking the students what their specific jobs are each session and I love that you are asking students to sit out when they are not able to follow the rules. The students respond so positively to you. I'm sure you have many callings, but I see working with kids as one of them.”

Lynne Schwartz

“Dear Mr. Anderson, Thank you very much for taking such great care of our 3-year-old Blake in Little Dragons. He is progressing beyond Sherri and my expectations and loves attending your class. Besides your wonderful teaching, you make the class so interesting and fun for him.

At his first official test for his orange belt, our family who came to watch was blown away at how well Blake did. Seeing our 3 year old perform, with an audience, with such precision was incredible.

Sherri and I look forward to Blake's continual progression through to his Black belt with you. The level of respect, discipline and focus Blake is learning will be an asset to him his entire life.

Thank you, sincerely” Dr. Alan Rosenthal

“Little Dragons is a great, friendly, and very inviting atmosphere for young children. The kids learn self-defense, self-respect, respect for others, good manners, self-confidence and self-esteem while having loads of fun. They really gear it towards the toddler age children to help them grow. I would recommend Little Dragons to all children, boys and girls.”

Pam Huerta
